#walk1000miles – March 2018

Reviewing my month of walking, in the #walk1000miles challenge.

March. Shortest month of the year? Shortest month of every year???

I don’t know where it’s suddenly gone but, here with are in April; the season of spring (apparently) and it’s past-time to review my miles.

02/03 – 6.5 miles – Congresbury in the snow
03/03 – 7.25 miles – Goblin Combe in the snow
04/03 – 2 miles – Wrington, North Somerset
11/03 – 10.5 miles – Wells to Ebbor Gorge (group walk)
18/03 – 7.5 miles – Windmill Hill in the snow
25/03 – 11 miles – Southern Quantocks (group walk)

Total for March 2018 = 44.75 miles

Not a bad tally for the month then, considering that we’ve only just entered ‘British Summer Time’ (another topic for another day) and that I’m not overly trying to hit one-thousand miles this year… It’s merely an act of tracking my progress at a more leisurely rate.

However, I do recognise a need to start upping my mileage and frequency of walks soon, as I am intending to walk the full length of The Ridgeway over five-days towards the end of May… If April is anything like March then, it’ll soon be behind us!

To be able to look back on this month in the future and note that I completed three walks in decent snow at a total of more than twenty-miles around North Somerset… It may be as hard to believe as it almost is for me to sit here and read right now!

I’ve been able to attend two walks with Brunel Walking Group that have been led by other people [actually, the same person]. Sometimes, following the leader is an experience I can appreciate more so than venturing off solo. Which brings me to my next point…

I’m actually quite shocked to realise that it’s been two-full-months since my last walk along the Severn Way! I had anticipated, beforehand, that I would’ve completed my Frampton-on-Severn loop before Easter at the latest… Analysing the situation more closely; I realise that we endured two weekends of disruption, thanks to the ‘Beast from the East’. I hope I can return to the trail soon but, with a couple of April weekends already reserved for certain events, I may end up postponing that until May.

Total for 2018 so far = 155.75 miles

At this rate, I’d say I’m clearly on track to achieve six-hundred miles by the end of the year – before I started keeping tabs on my mileage, I’d always assumed that this was close to my annual average.

Elsewhere, I’m continually frustrated by my internet situation. Internet upload speeds had recently fallen to almost-nothing. One thirteen-minute YouTube video took seven-and-a-half HOURS to upload! I’m falling behind with my Olly Outdoors channel because of this. My router has been upgraded and TalkTalk have tested my phone line… It’s potentially an issue with Windows 10 and a ‘socket error’… So far, I’ve yet to find the correct solution. I never had this trouble with my laptop, using all of the same kit and connections.

Thanks for reading.

    1. Thank you, Sarah. 🙂 I hope you’ll now begin to document your own progress on your blog.

I seem to remember that I didn’t initially start doing this when I first began the challenge; the idea came later. 😉

      1. Thanks Olly,
I went back through my diary yesterday and have jotted down our adventures so far this year. Several are standalone blog posts anyway so I think I will do a yearly round-up at the end of the year and promote next year’s challenge that way. I mention it every month in my newsletter anyway. Looking forward to your next post.
