Pondering A New Tent

Having just spent a long weekend living the life of a campsite, I’ve found myself pondering about one or two new purchases. I’ve already sorted a new sleeping mat and pillow. But I was looking at buying a new tent ahead of the trip. So, I thought I’d put some current thoughts down on paper. Or screen!

Camping at Brook Farm

June 2018. I had a week booked off work and a personal allowance to walk The Ridgeway National Trail in only five of those days.

…Long story short: I came home, injured, on the morning of day two. With a lot of emotion and feeling going on, I didn’t want to waste my remaining week of freedom and ‘failure’ before returning to work.

I decided to go camping for a few days and, for a change, I’d head south in to Somerset and Brook Farm Campsite near Long Sutton.

Winter Wild Camping?

We’re officially in to November as I began to write this. October was a bit of a blur in my memory… The occasional dry day submerged beneath the rushing images of many-a downpour.

From here, it is a long way until we’re back in the seasons of T-shirt weather. I do struggle with the darkness, drop in temperature and reduced sunlight. I’d love to go away and spend a weekend camping but, for me personally, it isn’t the right time of year…

Instead, I’m thinking about the occasional wild camp as a way of getting out there and attempting to ’embrace’ the long winter nights! Continue reading “Winter Wild Camping?”

Meeting the Outdoor Bloggers

This past weekend, I spent my time camping in Cheddar with the Outdoor Bloggers group. While it was only a short drive from home (and not an area in which I would usually look to go camping), it was also my first time meeting anyone from the group.

Two years ago, I probably wouldn’t have done this, through fear and anxiety. But I’m pleased to say that I have been. I’m going to share some of the highlights with you now and I look forward to meeting up with them all again in 2020, if not sooner.
