Here were are in November. Where did October go? At what point did we skip the joy of autumn and tumble in to the depths of winter so prematurely?!
07/10 – 9.5 miles – East Somerset
09/10 – 9.25 miles – Goblin Combe, North Somerset
19/10 – 4 miles – Wrington, North Somerset
20/10 – 9.5 miles – Blagdon, North Somerset
21/10 – 8 miles – Priddy to Draycott, Somerset
27/10 – 11.5 miles – Selworthy Circular (walk leading)
29/10 – 6 miles – Crook Peak, Somerset
29/10 – 2.25 miles – Brent Knoll, Somerset
31/10 – 9.75 miles – Black Down, Mendip Hills
Total for October 2018 = 69.75 miles
(Total for October 2017 = 70 miles)
I don’t feel as though I’ve done an awful lot of walking over this past month and I’m quietly pleased to see that I’ve amassed more than sixty-miles – and also, that I’m only a quarter of a mile behind the same total from 2017!
There was one particular weekend in this month where the weather was awful and, even with a full set of waterproofs available, I didn’t climb a single hill. I’m kind of fortunate at the moment with my employment situation, where I sometimes have a weekday spare to make up for any free-time not spent outdoors… But I don’t know how long this convenience will last for and I always feel an urge and pressure to get out and be somewhere, even when it’s rained persistently for many hours.
With the exception of one recent walk-leading exercise in West Somerset, the majority of my walks over this past month have been very local to me. Which is no bad thing. I even revisited one of my summer evening routes in a spare afternoon.
My only real concern is that I’ve not been out with the group, if you’ll mind the exclusion of the walk I led. As has been the case for the past couple of years, we are increasingly struggling to find new walk leaders who are willing to step forward and put events on the calendar. This, unfortunately, leaves limited opportunities for many of our hungry and active members.
Despite this relatively ‘low’ mileage month, I’m still on course to complete the one-thousand miles that I wasn’t aiming for at the start of the year… If these two final months are anything like October has been then, I should find the achievement to be quite comfortable.

Fantastic photos! Happy November 🙂
