I was pleased to be back walking on the Severn Way and looking forward to exploring areas I had never even visited before. This walk begins from the free car park in Berkeley, and follows the Way north through Sharpness.
Walking the Severn Way long-distance footpath, from Berkeley in Gloucestershire towards Slimbridge, via Sharpness and Purton. This also involves following the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal towpath.

Suddenly, it’s March and the south-west of England has ground to a halt, thanks to a severe dusting of snow.
January, I felt was an overly long and grey month. With February, I was beginning to settle in to the new year. But now, it’s already March and I’m screaming for 2018 to slow down!
As highlighted in a previous post, I’m looking for a new and ideally inflatable sleeping mat, with view to backpacking adventures, beginning with The Ridgeway in May.
My current mat (at 1800mm long and 40mm thick) is deemed to be too bulky in its pack size. Anything equal to or less than my two-season sleeping bag is what I’m aiming for.
This was the first group walk of 2018 that I’d attended. Part of my inspiration for that was in the fact that we’d be heading to the Black Mountains in Wales… Although, technically, we’d also be passing through the Brecon Beacons National Park.
It was the first time that Sarah would be leading a walk by herself. She was one of three other participants (along with myself) who spent the weekend in the Brecon Beacons back in November, as part of a walk leading and navigational training exercise.
