#walk1000miles – March 2017

Here we are on the 1st of April (no jokes, here). It’s time to review the first month of spring. Going in to this, I have to say that I’m a bit disappointed with my tally for March…

Okay, let’s put that in to perspective:

Thirteen days ago, I injured myself while out on a walk. I was part-way up Crook Peak (approaching from the south) when I started to feel pain in my right shin. I’m familiar with what I deem to be ‘shin splints’, don’t suffer from it very often and soldiered on through the minor discomfort.

This pain become more intense near the top of the hill. I thought about stopping but it was far too windy and my car was a good four-miles to the east in Axbridge. I had to walk on; hitch-hiking is not an option from many hilltops.

Crossing over the A38 and then down past Axbridge Hill, it was getting intense and mostly just above the ankle. For the next two days, I was in agony; limping through my final week in one job; experiencing the occasional shock of pain up in to my left knee cap. But with a number of Ibuprofen tablets and a couple of “boring” walk-free weekends (because I cannot ‘rest’ at work or pay the bills without), I’m now very well recovered, yet reluctant to push myself too hard too soon.

So, I potentially missed out on a around thirty-miles of walking and this first weekend in April is also going to suffer a ‘slump’ of sorts.

03/03 – 2 miles – Wrington
04/03 – 11 miles – River Parrett Trail
05/03 – 6.25 miles – Chew Magna
11/03 – 7.75 miles – Wrington
12/03 – 3.5 miles – Wrington
18/03 – 9 miles – Burrowbridge, Somerset
19/03 – 10.5 miles – Axbridge to Crook Peak
25/03 – 3.5 miles – Wrington
26/03 – 3 miles – Wrington

Total for March 2017 = 56.5 miles

I do apologise for the lack of fresh content on these pages over the last seven days. I have completed my first week in a new job and, while the working hours and environment suit me better, I’m having to shift and adjust myself… Blogging, sadly, got left behind but I’ll be rectifying this from the next week onwards.

Over on Facebook and Twitter, I’ve been trying to post regular ‘mini-blog’ updates just to keep things going.

For March, I had hoped to be pushing for my first one-hundred-mile-month. I feel disappointed to have achieved less than sixty-miles but I can also accept the reason why. I’m also officially over the two-hundred mark.

Current total for 2017 = 211 miles

Thanks for reading.
