#walk1000miles – September 2018

Summer is officially over and, with a definite chill added to each morning and evening, it’s certain to say that autumn has arrived. Daylight hours are slowly diminishing and it seems as though the end of another year is nigh.

01/09 – 15 miles – Sugar Loaf (with Brunel Walking Group)
02/09 – 11.5 miles – Nunney to Frome (with Brunel)
05/09 – 20.5 miles – The Ridgeway: Day 4
06/09 – 10.5 miles – The Ridgeway: Day 5
06/09 – 7.5 miles – Chinnor to Watlington Hill
10/09 – 13 miles – Burrington Combe to Cheddar Gorge
15/09 – 11 miles – Pen Y Fan from Cwm Gwdi
18/09 – 5.75 miles – Crook Peak, Somerset
22/09 – 9.5 miles – Oldbury-on-Severn (walk leading)
23/09 – 20 miles – Circuit of Bath
30/09 – 12 miles – Ham Hill Circular (with Brunel)

Total for September 2018 = 136.25 miles

I’m impressed with my own tally for this month. Looking back to the beginning, I find it hard to believe that some of these walks took place so recently. To me, they feel like such a long time ago… You could argue that they were within the “summer” half of September.

I’m very pleased to be able to say that I have completed my walk of The Ridgeway and that I finished my final two days in true backpacking style; ditching the car to stay overnight at a campsite along the way. I have plans for at least one more trail to follow in 2019.

I’ve been involved with a reasonable number of group walks, even at a time where it seems as though our programme calendar is lacking in recent submissions. Although I led one walk recently, it was supposed to be a much more of a grand outing but, I cut it short due to the weather forecast.

Even while temperatures are beginning to tumble outside of the daylight hours, we’ve been receiving mostly decent weather for in which to walk and be outside. Last weekend was a wash-out for many people and yet, I still managed to walk almost thirty miles across both days!

I was thinking about planning a wild camp, after the success of completing my first National Trail. But I fear the time for 2018 has now passed by for me and I’ll hold off on any solo trip to Dartmoor until April or May.

Current total for 2018 = 828.5 miles

This is, still bearing in mind, that I am not intending to walk one-thousand miles this year!!

Although I’m twenty-odd miles behind on my running total from this time in 2017, I’ve walked almost twice as many miles as what I covered in September last year.

Perhaps I can achieve more in life by ‘trying not to do things’ more often?

Thank you for reading.
