Port Eliot Festival 2017

Thursday 27th – Sunday 30th July 2017

Port Eliot sits in the north-eastern corner of Cornwall; near to Saltash and within the village of St. Germans. At the end of July each year, a festival is held on the estate.

Sometime in 2016, I was invited to attend this with a friend and, having enjoyed my time at Green Man in the Brecon Beacons (August 2014), I said ‘yes’ without doing any further research on what or where Port Eliot may be.

Rural Dolgellau

A five-mile walk from the camp site near Dolgellau in Mid Wales (May 2017).

Saturday 27th May 2017

My first full day in Mid Wales; the morning after our arrival. Some didn’t turn up or even pitch their tents until close to midnight!

We awoke to the sound and chill of rain British Weather. Two walks were happening at the same time; both with early starts. Everyone was moving, I just wanted to slow down and breathe for a bit… So, I ended up spending the day intentionally alone.

Visiting Attingham Park

This was a stop off in Shropshire, en route to a shared weekend and camping and walking in Snowdonia, with Brunel Walking Group.

More than two whole months have passed since the experience but it all remains fresh enough in my memory for me to be able to finally begin writing.

#walk1000miles – July 2017

A review of my walking miles for July 2017. Another Hundred-Mile-Month??

I always find this point in any calendar year to be slightly frightening time, with the possibility that there is suddenly ‘only one month of summer remaining’. When you’re making something of your weekends and trying to bypass the wasted time at work each week, the time can appear to accelerate.
