The Carneddau

With one walk from this trip already under my belt, it was time to embark on one of the two particular walks that I’d most been looking forward to. Having checked out of the Glan Aber Hotel in Bets-y-Coed, I drove for fifteen minutes along the A5 and in to the Ogwen Valley.

Last time I was here, in July 2018, I scrambled up Tryfan and in to the Glyderau with three friends. On this day, I was to climb the other side of Cwm Ogwen and meet the Carneddau.

Moel Siabod and Carnedd y Cribau

My first walk in Snowdonia since May 2019. It had been a long time in waiting; the first walk in what would be, for me, a series of days spent roaming about this National Park alone. I’ve driven up and checked in to the hotel the night before. A glorious day of weather was on the cards.

Five Nights in Snowdonia

Saturday 26th to Thursday 31st March 2022

Just in time for my birthday last month, I took myself away to Snowdonia. I’d wanted to do something like this a year earlier, but for the Lockdown restrictions that were in place. I’d thought about staying somewhere closer to home – perhaps Shropshire, North Devon or even Pembrokeshire – but the lure of Snowdonia was too strong. A National Park I’d not been to since 2019 and before the pandemic kicked off.

Mynydd Machen

Saturday 12th February 2022

On a rare Saturday off work, I drove across to South Wales. But not towards the Brecon Beacons for any forest I might’ve explored before. I was heading out for another route from the Walk West series. To the west of Newport and just outside of Caerphilly, I parked up in the village of Machen.
