#walk1000miles – April 2017

It’s May already. Four whole months are now behind us. Time appears to be ticking more quickly as each year passes.

April has been a great month for me personally. I’ve attended a number of group walks, including two that I’ve led; I’ve done walks with friends, some challenging treks on my own and I know it has been a record-breaking month for me personally.

Ridgeway Thoughts

As things currently stand, I’m on course to be ready (in the material sense) by the end of May, for my first long-distance multi-day walk along the Ridgeway.

Behind the pages of this blog, I’ve been purchasing other items – including a new sleeping bag and rucksack. Now, I’m only really need a set of dry sacks and probably a pair of new boots… That and finalised plans for my route, overnight stops and transport to and from the trail!

My intention to do this hike came up during Saturday’s group walk and I’ve been having frequent thoughts about it since…

Backpacking Purchases – Month 2 2017

With the shift in writing on one blog to starting here, I haven’t allowed myself enough time to write about the backpacking tent I ended up buying… Which I received over a week ago, now.

Here, we’ll take a look at my decision (which possibly won’t surprise many of the people who read my previous post) and what else arrived in the package.

A Fresh Start

Hello all!

I hope that some of you will have followed me over from Olly Writes which, through several names changes, has been my primary blog site since August 2009.

Here, at Olly Outdoors, I have a dedicated space to write solely about walking, camping and my outdoor adventures. With foundations in woodworking, I was finding my original blog to be extremely ‘diverse’ at times and I can appreciate that many long-term followers are not necessarily interested in the hiking content.

At the time of creating my first post, it has to be said that a lot of work is still to be done on this site, regardless of the many hours of writing that will surely follow. Please bear with me as I attempt to create the appearance I’m looking for. Down the line, I will upgrade from my free package to remove those irrelevant adverts (in the mean time, please try equipping your browser with free ad-blocking software).

One long-term goal is to create a database of my favourite walking routes. These will mostly fit within the North Somerset/Mendip Hills region, close to where I live and have grown up. Distances will range from, say, six-miles up to sixteen and beyond! I’m yet to decide on how to share these routes but I would like to also be able to share .GPX files in time. All thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

I’ll continue to post detailed write-ups of each walk on the main page, while the ‘Routes’ section will allow instant access to the details for all visitors.

I think that’s all I have to say right now.

Thanks for reading! Please follow and subscribe.
