I enjoy camping. But sleeping is something I struggle with, both at home and away. Under a tent, I’m often finding that physical discomfort is a concern for me and I’ll often wake up in some pain or struggle to relax in to a position from which I can drift off.

Very recently, I purchased an inflatable camping mat and I’d like to share my initial thoughts.

Vango Ark 200+ Tent

Unable to fulfil my ambition of backpacking along The Ridgeway in five-days and, with a week off work to savour, I spent a couple of nights at Brook Farm campsite in Long Sutton, South Somerset.

This was my first opportunity to use my latest tent purchase, the Vango Ark 200+.

Ridgeway Logistics

Although I said this a year ago and nothing is official at the time of writing, I’m aiming to walk The Ridgeway National Trail this year, with a preference for the end of May.

A year ago, I wrote a short series of posts on my plans and intentions for backpacking the long-distance trail (you’ll find links to those posts further down). Now, I’m looking ahead to this challenge for 2018, with perhaps the only outstanding issues to consider.

Sleeping Mat Options

As highlighted in a previous post, I’m looking for a new and ideally inflatable sleeping mat, with view to backpacking adventures, beginning with The Ridgeway in May.

My current mat (at 1800mm long and 40mm thick) is deemed to be too bulky in its pack size. Anything equal to or less than my two-season sleeping bag is what I’m aiming for.
