Axbridge to Crook Peak

Crook Peak is a hill I know well. One of the highlights of the Mendip Hills and an ascent I have made a large number of times in the last five-years or less.

There’s a familiar route that I would most often follow… Usually starting at the foot of the hill but not arriving at its peak until close to the end, after an elongated circular walk.

This time, I would start further east and very close to the medieval town of Axbridge.

My Boots and Insoles

As a frequent hiker who’s attempting to walk one-thousands miles this year, the fit and support offered by my footwear is of great importance.

I find myself ready to dip in to the market for a new pair of boots, with long summer walks and The Ridgeway in mind… In this post, I’d like to go over what I currently wear and the various insole and footbed configurations I’ve tried.

Burrowbridge and Beyond

This would be my second walk in the Burrowbridge area and an attempt to finalise a pre-walk, for a group event that I’m actually leading tomorrow.

My first walk here followed too many roads and hard paths for my liking. With some familiarity already behind me, I wanted to explore further.

Chew Magna Walk

I have very recently turned thirty-two and, to celebrate the occasion (albeit, eight-days later), I decided that I would lead a walk for a group people…

In spite of my struggles with social anxiety, a lack of social skills and other issues, I felt like doing ‘something different’ and wanted to share a walk in one of my favourite areas. I stopped doing things to keep up with other people (like drinking) nearly ten-years ago and I dislike loud parties and crowds.

That walk took place yesterday and I was amazed to have ten people walking with me. Weather was also very much on our side! Back in early March, I set out one Sunday morning on a bit of a ‘reccy’ for a few hours, to investigate a series of different footpaths.
