To Bala and Back

A lot of time has passed since my most recent trip to Snowdonia. Or, to look at it another way; it was only two months ago and the average daily temperatures have risen by nearly 200%!

It was another weekend away with Brunel Walking Group, to make the most of the early May Bank Holiday Weekend. Most of us pitched up in mid/north Wales on the Friday night. Saturday was the first day in which group walks were available.

Completing the Snowdon Horseshoe

This was my third visit to Snowdonia and, at long last, I had made it to the summit of Snowdon – the highest peak in Wales – at the first attempt of trying.

Having overcome the intimidation of Crib Goch, we would now have to brave the likely hoard of “tourists” huddled around the trig point and this mountain’s other… Attractions.

Snowdon via. Crib Goch

Tuesday 17th July 2018

Forty-eight hours earlier, we’d conquered Tryfan and the Glyderau. A day of scrambling and hiking across less-familiar terrain. It’s almost as if that was in preparation for our final adventure in North Wales.

This was our last full day, ahead of our final night and then, heading home on the Wednesday. We drove in to Snowdonia for the second time in three days. We were destined to climb Snowdon. Not only that, we would journey there along the perilous knife-edge ridge of Crib Goch!

Exploring the Glyders

Sunday 15th July 2018

According to my memory, it took us a good three hours to climb up and over Tryfan from the A5. A remarkable statistic, considering the direct journey to the top measures only half a mile or so.

We weren’t about to make an immediate return to the car, though. Onward, we strode towards the Glyderau.
