This walk follows a route that you can find in the Beyond Bristol Walks series of books. A pair I would highly recommend investing in, if you’re at all local to the area and looking for ideas and direction.
Continue reading “Old and Little Sodburys”My final walk in May was again set in Somerset. But where I have favoured higher ground for previous weeks, this time, I would head down to and across the Somerset Levels, following a guide Robin Tetlow, author of the excellent boot Beyond Bristol 2.
This walk finished only a handful of hours before the state of ‘Lockdown’ was thrust upon the UK (even if the government aren’t naming it as such). At the time, it was debatable whether I should be driving forty-five minutes from home to go for a walk; now, it’s clear that I shouldn’t.
This will almost certainly be the last decent walk I’ll have done for many weeks. It was also a chance to discover a few miles of the Cotswold Way that I hadn’t seen before.
I don’t do too many walks in the eastern half of Somerset. It’s really not that far from home but, each time I do head out that way, I either come home having lost something or find myself frustrated by a flurry of footpath obstructions.
Having just purchased a book at the time, titled Beyond Bristol Walks, I decided to head out and follow one of Robin Tetlow’s routes.
