The Essence of the Forest

I’d only once previously been to the Forest of Dean and that was an enjoyable Go Ape experience, which I’d recommend to anyone. People often rave about the location but I’d never done a proper walk around it. Contrary to my previous believe, Wentwood sits outside of the boundary.

For the second time in 2022, I drove across the Severn Bridge and to a part of Gloucestershire not too far from the border with Wales.

Wentwood and Gray Hill

A few years ago, I challenged myself with the quiet intention of completing more of the walks available in the Walk West series of eBooks (all of which are free to download from this website). I couldn’t recall the last time I had embarked on one of Geoff Mullet’s walks and I wasn’t feeling too enthusiastic about another local walk on the Mendip Hills.

I dove in to Walk West Again (the second title in this trilogy) and printed out instructions and a basic map for the final route on the contents page.

Cleveland Way: Day 7

It was time to complete my journey along the Cleveland Way. For the final time on this trip, I’d pack away my tent and all of my camping gear, to soldier on for a final twelve miles on foot. At Filey, I would reach the end point and could then begin the long journey home.

Cleveland Way: Day 6

Friday 17th September 2021

This would be my penultimate day following the Cleveland Way – or, to phrase it different; my final full day on this National Trail. I awoke in the morning, a stone’s throw from Robin Hood’s Bay at the bottom of the hill. Fourteen miles of coastline ahead of me. Scarborough in mind for my final night of camping.
