South Downs Way: Day Two

Having braved and survived the woodland scene of my first ever wild camp, I was up and packing early the next morning; ready for breakfast and the beginning of a new day on this promising National Trail.

This walk had originally been forecast to last a good nineteen miles. But, having walked on a bit further than intended the night before, I was looking forward to a reduced duration.

Although I’d left it quite late with the planning of my accommodation along the South Downs Way (we’re talking about making initial enquiries only two-to-three weeks in advance…), I thought I had everything sorted and that I would be able to follow my daily itinerary as planned.

Walking The Ridgeway: Day 4

Wednesday 5th September 2018

An entire month had passed since my previous outing (Days 2 and 3) along this National Trail. August had been a fairly busy month and for a number of reasons (mostly, walking-related). I was also fearful of heading out at a time when the majority of school kids and working parents were likely to be outside… Overpopulating spaces, crying and congesting public transport systems.

In the first week of September, I decided that the time was right for my return to complete my final two days of walking The Ridgeway. Everything had been planned out in advance and it began with a drive to Watlington.

Back From Dolgellau

I arrived home at about 20.10 last night, having spent the previous three evenings sleeping in a tent to the south of Snowdonia in mid Wales.

My first trip away with and experience of camping with a walking group. Previously, I’d only been camping with one friend at a time. It’s passed by very quickly and there are many things I could reflect on.
