#walk1000miles – April 2017

It’s May already. Four whole months are now behind us. Time appears to be ticking more quickly as each year passes.

April has been a great month for me personally. I’ve attended a number of group walks, including two that I’ve led; I’ve done walks with friends, some challenging treks on my own and I know it has been a record-breaking month for me personally.

Axbridge to Crook Peak

Crook Peak is a hill I know well. One of the highlights of the Mendip Hills and an ascent I have made a large number of times in the last five-years or less.

There’s a familiar route that I would most often follow… Usually starting at the foot of the hill but not arriving at its peak until close to the end, after an elongated circular walk.

This time, I would start further east and very close to the medieval town of Axbridge.

Burrowbridge and Beyond

This would be my second walk in the Burrowbridge area and an attempt to finalise a pre-walk, for a group event that I’m actually leading tomorrow.

My first walk here followed too many roads and hard paths for my liking. With some familiarity already behind me, I wanted to explore further.

Ridgeway Thoughts

As things currently stand, I’m on course to be ready (in the material sense) by the end of May, for my first long-distance multi-day walk along the Ridgeway.

Behind the pages of this blog, I’ve been purchasing other items – including a new sleeping bag and rucksack. Now, I’m only really need a set of dry sacks and probably a pair of new boots… That and finalised plans for my route, overnight stops and transport to and from the trail!

My intention to do this hike came up during Saturday’s group walk and I’ve been having frequent thoughts about it since…
