Snow on the Quantocks (December 2017)

December 2017: my first walk on the Quantocks in a while and exploring this familiar, loveable landscape under a blanket of snow.

Thursday 28th December 2017

One day prior to this walk, I’d seen numerous snow-filled photographs of the Quantock Hills and other high places, spread across social media. I had days to spare but didn’t want to wait too long in case it began to clear as quickly as it had arrived. So, it was down to the Quantocks, I would go.

This post is quite timely, as night-time temperatures have recently dropped below freezing in the UK and, down in Somerset, we’re being reminded of weather warnings and the constant threat of fresh snow.

Axbridge to Crook Peak

Boxing Day 2017 walk, from Axbridge in Somerset, to the heights of Crook Peak on the Mendip Hills and back along the Cheddar Yeo river.

Boxing Day: Tuesday 26th December 2017

There was a time when I would walk up to Crook Peak on a regular basis. Since those days, my desire to explore further afield has grown and I’ve often come close to taking the local hills for granted.

It was Boxing Day. I didn’t fancy travelling far and I knew that, wherever I would decide to walk, there were likely to be others around. Sticking close to home but with a physical challenge in mind, I drove down to Axbridge.

#walk1000miles – December 2017

A round-up of December’s mileage and final review of my #walk1000miles challenge in 2017.

If you’ve been following my progress with the #walk1000miles challenge this year, you’ll know that I already completed the challenge (by a single mile) at the end of November.

For me, the pressure was off during December. I was free to walk as few or as many miles as I would choose; every weekend or not.

YouTube Update – 19/12/2017

I’d like to try and make this style of post a regular feature of my blog. Perhaps once a month, I can produce a ‘YouTube Update’, detailing all that I’ve uploaded within the previous thirty days. I’m sure that not every reading this is already subscribed to Olly Outdoors… Some may prefer not to keep a Google account.

With several walks around Wales over the past couple of months, I’ve been quite busy on the uploading front and I’m very, very close to achieving my one-hundredth subscriber!
