It won’t be long now before I begin the long drive up in to the north-west of England. In all my ten years of walking, I’ve never once set foot in the Lake District proper (unless you count a stop at Tebay services on the way up to Scotland back in June…). This trip could be interoperated as a bit of a celebration for my decade of hiking around the UK.

This was to be our final outing for this trip in the Scottish Highlands, ahead of a long journey home the next day. This Monday promised to offer the best weather of our long weekend and so we were bound for the higher ground. From Aviemore below, we drove up to the Cairn Gorm Base Station.

We awoke at the hostel in Aviemore, after our second night’s stay. With a forecast that still promised strong wind upon higher ground, we would again stick to the lower levels of the Scottish Highland, in the names of both safety and of sanity.
