A review of my walking miles for July 2017. Another Hundred-Mile-Month??

I always find this point in any calendar year to be slightly frightening time, with the possibility that there is suddenly ‘only one month of summer remaining’. When you’re making something of your weekends and trying to bypass the wasted time at work each week, the time can appear to accelerate.

Camping in August: Thoughts

It’s summer! We’ve had ‘unseasonally’ warm weather and it’s a good time to think about camping – if you enjoy that kind of experience and haven’t already got plans under way.

I don’t normally intend to plan a camping trip for August but this year I’ll be heading to the Peak District for a long weekend. Without going in to that though, I’d like to share some of my considerations on camping at this time of year.

Sugar Loaf (Part 1)

Saturday 29th April 2017

Sugar Loaf. A mountain or hill? However you may regard it, this was one of the peaks of the Brecon Beacons that I’d been intending to conquer for a good couple of years.

I came across an eleven-mile route on the Walking Englishman’s website some time ago and that provided the impetus to get me going. There are so many ‘short’ walks available online… I always prefer to do something worthwhile, when bridge tolls and ninety-minute drives are required.
