Cleveland Way: Day 4

Wednesday 15th September 2021

This day began after a sleepless night of wild camping in my tent. Pitched above the disused quarry of Guisborough Woods, I’d endured the constant wind and heavy rain through the night. My tent improperly pitched; water having pooled beside my sleeping mat.

It was time to get up, get out, get packed away and get on, with the promise of reaching the coastline. There was time for breakfast… I just didn’t have enough clean water left to justify a single bowl of porridge or cup of tea.

Simonsbath, River Barle and Five Burrows Hill

This was my first walk as part of a three-night getaway and camping trip down on Exmoor. I drove down in the morning – car fully loaded with my tent and all – somewhat ready to do this long and challenging walk before looking to pitch up near Winsford.

Knighton and Knucklas (Offa’s Dyke Path)

Saturday 26th June 2021

It was time to leave the car alone for a couple of days. I quite enjoy being able to do this; setting off from the campsite and returning on foot, later that day. In this walk, I’d begin by following Offas Dyke Path several miles to the north, before leaving that National Trail and looping back along a variety of footpaths and bridleways.
