Cleveland Way: Day 6

This would be my penultimate day following the Cleveland Way – or, to phrase it different; my final full day on this National Trail. I awoke in the morning, a stone’s throw from Robin Hood’s Bay at the bottom of the hill. Fourteen miles of coastline ahead of me. Scarborough in mind for my final night of camping.

Cleveland Way: Day 5

Thursday 16th September 2021

Another morning of emerging blue sky was waiting for me, as I unzipped my tent and crawled out of the sleeping bag. I’d soon be back walking beside the coast. Warm weather and another night under sil-nylon to follow.

Cleveland Way: Day 4

Wednesday 15th September 2021

This day began after a sleepless night of wild camping in my tent. Pitched above the disused quarry of Guisborough Woods, I’d endured the constant wind and heavy rain through the night. My tent improperly pitched; water having pooled beside my sleeping mat.

It was time to get up, get out, get packed away and get on, with the promise of reaching the coastline. There was time for breakfast… I just didn’t have enough clean water left to justify a single bowl of porridge or cup of tea.

Cleveland Way: Day 3

Beak Hills to ‘Wild Camp’ (21 miles)

Tuesday 14th September 2021

After two nights of camping across the North York Moors, I was really starting to settle in to my walk along the Cleveland Way. This third day would be my longest of the week and by the end of it, I’d almost be clear of the moorland section and ready to step on to the coastline in Day 4.

Oh and, unless something would change suddenly, I’d be wild camping at the end of it! In an area I’d not visited before.
