Waking up in the youth hostel of Streatley-on-Thames, I was downstairs in the restaurant at 8am (a time arranged the evening before) and ready for the full-English breakfast that would fuel me on for another fifteen miles of following The Ridgeway National Trail.

Walking The Ridgeway: Day 2

If not for the help and suggestions of my friends Matt and Joe, I believe I would’ve struggled to complete this second stage of my Ridgeway walk; trekking for two days across one weekend.

We all left Bristol in the one car and my friends had kindly offered to drop me off at one point on Saturday morning and then to collect me on Sunday afternoon and return me to Bristol. Meanwhile, they were off on their own getaway walking a good stretch of the Thames Path.

Return to Exmoor (May 2018)

It has been over eighteen-months since my previous visit to Exmoor; an almost equally strenuous walk that climbed to the highest point, Dunkery Beacon. At the beginning of 2017, I’d vowed to make a greater effort to explore more of Exmoor… Other intentions must’ve interrupted this ambition.

Severn Way: Blaise Castle to Severn Beach

Walking the Severn Way, from Blaise Castle to Severn Beach. Featuring Avonmouth…

By the time you read this, I should be out walking another stretch of the Severn Way.

This walk was an ‘easily accessible’ portion of the 210-mile long trail that I decided that I could tackle on a day where I wasn’t feeling great. Less than a thirty-minute drive from home and walking through areas I would recognise, if not the Way itself.

Inevitably, I was going to have to pass through Avonmouth.
